Falconry Experience (New for 2012)

'Enjoy learning about Falconry'

THE FALCONRY EXPERIENCE (New for 2012)

Join us for an active 3 hour experience that will enable you to learn & practice the skills undertaken in the field of Falconry. Learn about the methods used to manage falconry birds and what is involved to manage their welfare and daily care.

This experience is very hands-on and will be limited to a maximum of 4 participants only, the minimum age for this experience is set from 16 years upwards.

If you have an interest in Falconry, this experience is definately for you!

Please book a date early to avoid any disappointment. The birds that you will get to work with will be a Falcon, a Red tailed Hawk and a Harris Hawk, these are birds of prey that are commonly used in today's Falconry.

Your 'Falconry Experience' will involve.

1) Learn about the different equipment used and learn about the birds housing requirements.
2) Understand and learn the Falconry knot and the reason for it's use.
3) Practice with a dummy bunny and a falcon lure whilst learning why these are used for Falconry.
4) Learn about the different types of food that supports the diet of Birds of Prey in captivity and most importantly how this food can effect the birds body weight and behaviour before and after flying.
5) Help with the food preparation and preparing the falconry bag before we take one of the birds out in the field for training.
6) Participants will be able to place one of our birds on the scales for weighing, this is important prior to the bird being trained or flown free. At this stage of your experience we will help you to learn about an important process to understand whether the bird on the scales is either keen or over weight to go out to work.
7) As a team we will all go out to the field with a falconry bird and start with the bird on the training line, this will involve a number of flights to your gloved hand and then to either the dummy bunny or a falcon lure.
8) The experience then ends with all participants going out in the fields to fly one of our falconry birds freely in the open countryside, this is a very natural location on the farm that provides a great end to what can only be described as an hands-on Falconry Experience.

Disclaimer: Depending on the day, which needs to take into account unforeseen weather conditions, some of the above might be subject to change, any changes made will not effect your experience.

Price £60 per participant
