The Barn Owl Centre is a registered charity that works towards the conservation and protection of Barn Owls & other British Owl species. In addition we also provide a caring working sanctuary that supports the welfare of Owls and Birds of Prey.
We are now in the planning process at looking to expand and develop the Charity’s business and its activities. To help with this we are now creating some great opportunities for skilled and enthusiastic Volunteers who would be prepared to support us.
The Barn Owl Centre is active 7 days a week from 8am until 9pm, which means we can provide great flexibility with regards to how much time you would like to help out.

Skilled Falconers/Semi Skilled Bird Handlers
(Weekdays/Weekends)
To support an increased number of unwanted pet birds now housed at the Barn Owl Centre, we are looking for help from skilled or semi skilled bird handlers who would be prepared to join our existing bird team to help out with the re-training of a number of Owls, Hawks & Falcons. Must have good knowledge, good handling skills & the ability to learn & understand the behaviour of each bird that will be trained. Basic knowledge of falconry equipment is essential, training is given if required. Must have good communication skills, must be able to work as a part of a team with the ability to use own initiative if & when required. Time keeping will be important & so will be commitment. Driver preferred with clean licence. CV would be appreciated.
Bird Handler Assistants
(Weekdays or Weekends - Mornings or Afternoons)
This is an important job that is a great help to the main bird handlers, assistants are an important asset to bird handlers as it helps to release more time to allow the handlers to train & fly more birds during a working day. A job as an assistant will be to help with simple tasks such as cleaning bird aviaries, bird perches & helping out with other bird related jobs. Basic cleaning skills are required & most important, commitment is a must. All assistants will be given training where necessary & given the opportunity to work with the birds handlers & the birds they are working with.
Sales & Marketing
(Weekdays)
Confident Sales person with clean driving licence needed to promote & sell an assortment of quality Wildlife Products made by our charity. Good communication skills essential.
Fundraisers
(Weekdays or Weekends)
Additional Fundraisers are needed to join our existing fundraising teams who work out & about in the community, drivers preferred but not essential. Training will be given on the charity's work plus Owl handling training will be given. Anyone with grant knowledge would be a real bonus. Good communication skills with the public is essential, full support is given by our fundraising team to make you feel welcomed.
Gardener/Handy Person
(Weekdays mainly)
Skilled or semi skilled Gardener or handy person needed to help out around the Centre and its Nature Reserve, driver preferred. Good communication skills essential.
Wildlife Enthusiast
(Weekdays or Weekends)
We are also looking for an enthusiastic person who enjoys wildlife, someone who has good knowledge relating to mammals, birds, insects & plantlife. This will involve working within the Nature Reserve we are creating. Good communication skills essential.
Computer Graphics & Web
(Weekdays)
We are looking for skilled people to help out with the design of print material, web design & eCommerce. Good communication skills essential.
