The oldest Barn Owl alive?
Barny the Barn Owl — A Remarkable Milestone
On 17th May 2016, Barny reached the remarkable age of 30 years — an exceptional milestone for a captive-bred barn owl.
Her hatch date is confirmed by the metal DOE leg ring she wears, and her age is recorded on an official Article 10 Certificate.
While the typical lifespan of a captive-bred barn owl is between 20 and 25 years, Barny’s longevity reflects both her resilience and the high standards of welfare and care she has received.
Despite her age, Barny remained active, in good health, and continued to take part in flying experiences and photography days, helping visitors connect with owls and understand their welfare needs.
If you are aware of a barn owl of similar age, we would be pleased to hear from you.
